River Guide / Trip Leader Education: Outdoor Education/Natural Science degree a plus Certifications: CPR/First Aid, WFA or WFR, Clean Driving Record Duration: Year-round Job Summary: Desert Adventures is a premier outdoor adventure tour company in Boulder City, Nevada. We are looking for professional, resourceful, and fun people to join our team. We operate an extensive program that includes paddling, trekking, scenic tours, and outdoor courses including, Leave No Trace, CPR/AED, First Aid, and wilderness medicine. While guides may specialize in one area, they are expected to support and cross-train in other disciplines. We have one of the most comprehensive guide training programs in the area. Guides will instruct and lead outdoor trips, assist in river launches, retrievals, shuttles, and transportation to/from Las Vegas hotels. Responsibilities will include maintaining and cleaning equipment, and coordinating logistics. Qualifications: Applicants must be outgoing, enjoy entertaining and educating a diverse audience, confident in a leadership role, and have a passion for nature. In addition to a working knowledge of the natural history of the area, qualified applicants must also have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to entertain the clients. Strong communication and public speaking skills are a must. Experience with multi-day camping and desert travel is important. Must be willing to work long hours in harsh environments, be physically fit, and able to lift 50+ lbs overhead. Guides must demonstrate solid work ethic, possess high standards, and be patient, detail-oriented, and extremely organized. Qualified applicants must be able to make proper decisions quickly and work calmly in tense or chaotic situations, and be efficient within a team. Preference will be given to those with WFR, WEMT, ACA or BCU Rescue certifications. Two years previous guiding experience on fast moving water is desired but not necessary. Applicants with no prior guiding experience can gain the necessary skills by enrolling in a Guide School or gaining the necessary skills on their own time through our in-house training program. Requirements: CPR/First Aid/AED WFA or WFR Clean driving record, CDL a plus Non-smoking work environment Pass DOT drug screen / random tests Clean professional appearance Working smart phone with texting capabilities Must be at least 25 years old Additional Info: SEASON: Desert Adventures operates year round, with our peak season being February through November. TRAINING: In lieu of previous experience, those wishing to gain the necessary required skills through may do so through guide school or equivalent training upon hire. This is the responsibility of the applicant. Students will have access to resources such as equipment and instruction (at no cost) to obtain the necessary skills to pass the required tests and safety evaluation. Logged hours or previous guiding experience may be presented in place of certain training requirements. Upon successful completion, you’ll become eligible for employment with Desert Adventures.
