READING, MA — The Select Board voted to approve and execute a contract with Fidel Maltez on Tuesday, officially making him Reading's next town manager.
Maltez will be Reading's third town manager, succeeding Bob LeLacheur, who is leaving in February after nine years. LeLacheur will assist Maltez with the transition.
Maltez is the public works commissioner in Chelsea. He previously served as the city's assistant commissioner before heading the public works department.
The Select Board quickly approved Maltez's contract by a 5-0 vote. He introduced his family and was presented with a Reading Rockets baseball cap, before posing for a photo with the Select Board.
