Description
NEWTON, MA — Newton will add a seventh vehicle to its NewMo transportation program on Monday, Jan. 10 so more residents can get a ride to any place in the city they need to go.
NewMo, which is providing approximately 800 trips per week and over 7,000 rides since October, provides anyone age 13 and older with rides anywhere in Newton for just $2. Service begins at 7 a.m. and run through 6:30 p.m., giving teachers and students a way to get to school and activities, and the average wait time is around 16 minutes.
Due to the Omicron COVID-19 variant, the city will also begin limiting vehicles to two passengers instead of three starting Monday. Because of the added vehicle, no service impacts are expected.
Seniors who sign up specifically for the NewMo Senior Service can also pre-book rides to medical appointments by calling the call center before 5:00 p.m. the night before at 617-655-8019. Those currently paying a reduced rate below $2 will not be required to pay more and all seniors will continue to receive door-to-door service and weekend transportation.
To sign up for NewMo, download the NewMo app on a smartphone or call 617-655-8019. To register for the senior service, contact the Newton Senior Center at 617-796-1665 or Elizabeth Lund at [email protected]. To sign up to be a driver, apply here or contact [email protected] with questions.
