OAKTON, VA — Santa was really good to Brian C. Donohue this year. The a University of Virginia mathematics major from Oakton found a winning Virginia Lottery ticket in his Christmas stocking that turned out to be worth $1 million. The winning Bank a Million ticket was purchased by Donohue's mother on Dec. 22 at the Giant Food at 2932 Chain Bridge Road in Oakton. In the Bank a Million game, players must match six numbers in order to win the $1 million top prize. The game's two other top prizes are $500,000 and $25,000. Virginia Lottery calculates the prizes so the winners receive those exact amounts after taxes. Although Donohue's ticket didn't match the Bonus Ball number of 15, it did match all six winning numbers exactly: 4-8-21-25-32-35. A player's odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 3.8 million. Donohue told the Virginia Lottery that he was going to use the prize money to pay for his tuition, as well as that of his sister's.
