Here are the top 4 stories today in Salt Lake City: Salt Lake City is now officially a finalist among four cities to host the 2024 Republican National Convention. With fresh amenities to promote like a new airport and a large convention center hotel, this third attempt to host the GOP convention may prove to be the charm. The other finalists are Milwaukee, Nashville, and Pittsburgh. (KJZZ) Responding to the dramatic rise of new infections, the University of Utah has issued new COVID-19 protocols on campus, including mandatory vaccination (including boosters) and now the addition of weekly testing for those on campus. (fox13now.com) A new incident management system will be employed at the Utah Capitol in time for the upcoming legislative session, which will allow for improved communications across the capitol complex and in the House and Senate buildings to streamline necessary or emergency messaging. The new system is largely in response to the raid on the nation's Capitol building a year ago this week. (KUTV 2News) While a new report reveals national rent prices declining for the first time since 2020, rent costs are still rising in Salt Lake City, and have risen by 19.5% since the beginning of the pandemic.
