JOLIET, IL — A 34-year-old resident punched a woman in the face, choked her unconscious and later jumped from a second-story window trying to evade Joliet officers, according to police. Officers later found Eric Tyler at the BP gas station in the 4800 block of Caton Farm Road where the arrest was made. Tyler was booked into the Will County Jail on charges of aggravated domestic battery, interfering with the reporting of domestic violence, resisting arrest, theft and having an outstanding Will County arrest warrant for an earlier domestic violence case. Thursday's incident happened around 2:25 a.m. at a residence in the 2400 block of River Bend Drive. Joliet police learned of several 911 hang up calls at the house. Joliet police say Tyler attacked a female acquaintance. "During an argument, Tyler struck the victim in the face with a closed fist," police spokesman Dwayne English stated. "Tyler then began to choke the victim to the point of losing consciousness. Tyler then threw the victim's cellphone at her, striking her in the eye." The woman managed to escape and run outside the residence. A Joliet Fire Department ambulance took the woman to St. Joe's hospital to treat her injuries. "Officers converged on the residence to make an arrest but learned that Tyler had jumped from a second-story window of the residence to flee from officers," police reports state. "As officers searched the area, it was determined that a (person) matching Tyler's description was currently at BP gas station at 4802 Caton Farm Road." At the time of his arrest, Tyler had the victim's debit card and her Firearm Owner's Identification card in his possession, Joliet police said. Officers further determined that Tyler held an active Will County arrest warrant for domestic battery. Will County Jail logs indicate that Tyler resides in the 1200 block of Joliet's Elizabeth Street. His bail was set at $15,000. He remained in custody on Friday afternoon. Image via Google Maps
