ELMHURST, IL — Incidents involving battery were reported recently at Elmhurst Hospital, Jewel's northside grocery store and Ed Napleton Acura, police said. Here is information from the latest police reports: Battery Ashley Melendez, 32, of Chicago, was arrested Monday on a charge of domestic battery. She was taken to the DuPage County Jail. According to a police report, a man told officers that Melendez battered him about 8:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at Ed Napleton Acura, 745 W. Lake St. But he declined to pursue charges or give a statement to police. An officer attempted to contact the suspect immediately after the incident, but was unsuccessful. Melendez surrendered herself at the police department Monday. Kevin Stilwell, 45, of Hayward, Wisconsin, was arrested about 9 a.m. Tuesday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, on charges of battery to a peace officer, attempted battery and disorderly conduct. He was released on bond. According to a police report, Stilwell spit at hospital staff while being escorted out of the hospital. While outside the hospital, Stilwell kicked an officer in the left shin, police said. A battery was reported occurring about 7 p.m. Tuesday at Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St. The case is pending an investigation. No other information was available. Identity theft A resident in the 900 block of Bryan Street told police Monday that his personal information was used without authority to open an account with Wells Fargo Bank. Wells Fargo denied the account because of a lack of identification. The victim reported the fraud to the bank. Residents in the 400 block of West Third Street and 800 block of South Stratford Avenue made similar reports. Egging A house in the 100 block of Cayuga Avenue was egged while a resident was out of town between Dec. 26 and Dec. 27. The incident was reported Monday. Window damage A rock was thrown through the front window of a house between 2:30 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of Poplar Avenue. Driving violations Claudia Gutierrez, 31, of Chicago, was cited about 10:30 p.m. Monday at St. Charles and Poplar on charges of no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured vehicle and improper lighting. She was released on bond. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and people charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
