Description
This is Skipper. Skipper is a three year old red heeler. She is white and covered in red freckles with the cutest diamond right on the top of her head, and her ears still tip just a smidge forward like when she was a puppy. Skipper is a great dog! She is funny and goofy and smart and loyal. She is house and crate trained. She is spayed and up-to-date on all her vaccinations. She knows "sit," "here," "crate up," "no," and she's OK at "down." It is very easy to teach her commands.a So why in the world would we need to rehome her? Two things. First, she herds and bugs my smaller older dachshund. She's very possessive of me and tries to get between me and my older dog (who I've had a lot longer). Second, and most importantly, we don't have a fenced yard. We live on three acres out in the country, so this hasn't been a problem for us before, but Skipper has become a REAL roamer, and she's started bothering the neighbors -- just getting into their stuff and bugging them. Also, she barks aggressively when people go by our property (she has never gone after anyone -- just barked and kind of scared them). I am afraid someone is going to shoot her or poison her out here because of her roaming so far. Skipper would make a great single dog, but she would make a better companion to a (probably male) dog with equal energy who is dominant but calm. She plays well with bigger children (she does great with my seven year old granddaughter), but she's pretty intense for a smaller child -- just kind of herds them and and is all over them. She just wants to play! I have seen her with a cat once. She was very curious, but not aggressive. The cat was not agreeable though. Skipper would THRIVE on a farm with animals to herd and lots of land to roam as long as she had loving people to come in with in the evenings. In town she definitely needs to be fenced. Mostly, she loves to get on the couch and snuggle up as absolutely close to you as she can. Skipper is a great dog. The failing is with our circumstances, not with her. I want to find the right family to love her and give her the right circumstances. I am asking a $100 rehoming fee to offset some of her recent vet expenses and to be sure she goes to a good home, and I will want to meet up with you at your place (just from the outside is fine). I promise I'm not a stalker. I just want to be sure of the home. She would come with her crate, blanket, toys, and coat. The last four pictures are from when she was quite a bit younger, but they show her silly smile and her coloring quite well. Please text if you would like this great family dog.
