Responsibilities 60% Inspects, repairs and adjusts automotive systems Inspects, repairs and adjusts automotive systems fuel injection, electrical, exhaust, carburetor, hydraulic, and lubrication systems Replaces repairs and adjusts components including: ignitions, brakes, break pads, shoes, drums, rotors, hoses, lights, tires, tailgates, lifts, etc. Diagnoses malfunctions in various computer-monitored automotive systems and components such as ignition, carburetion, fuel injection, automatic transmissions, hydraulic systems, and anti-lock brakes using electronic analysis, diagnostic equipment, and specialized tools. Overhauls, repairs, services and assembles farm equipment and machinery such as combines, forage harvesters, blowers, balers, grinder/movers, plows, disks, harrows. 20% Maintains computerized records of all maintenance performed Knows and understands Department of Transportation inspection rules and record-keeping requirements. 20% Maintains building and equipment throughout the entire facility Starting Hourly Rate: $21.35 Work Environment Work is performed in both a shop and field environment. This position may be exposed to hazardous conditions where hearing and visual protection may be required. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications ASE certification in at least four of the eight Auto Series tests. A1: Engine Repair A2: Automatic Transmission Transaxle A3: Manual Drive Train and Axles A4: Suspension and Steering A5: Brakes A6: Electrical/Electronic Systems A7: Heating and Air Conditioning A8: Engine Performance High school graduation or equivalent and two years of vocational education in automotive mechanics Two years of automotive experience Experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles and general equipment. Valid Class D Drivers License Preferred Qualifications Class “B” Driver’s License preferred DOT Inspector Qualified About the Department Parking & Transportation Services is a self-supporting unit of the University of Minnesota within Auxiliary Services. The department is responsible for the administration, operation and maintenance of reliable and efficient transportation services on the Twin Cities campus including transit, parking, fleet, streets, walkways and way-finding. PTS supports alternatives to the single-occupant vehicle and promotes programs to encourage the University community to walk, bike, carpool, or take the bus. The department handles compliance documentation for all University vehicles or licensed equipment and administers the fuel credit card, vehicle insurance and safety, and employee driver training programs.
