“Engaging Communities in Southeast Texas on Flood Preparedness” is a research project funded by the Gulf Research Program (GRP) at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM). It seeks to understand household experiences with floods and how other disasters, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and winter storms, affect the ability of households to prepare for floods. This project is directed by the GRP and Resilient America Program (RAP) at the NASEM. Research 4 Progress, a consulting business focused on sociological and public health research in disaster-stricken communities, is conducting household surveys to collect data for the project. Research 4 Progress is currently seeking to hire Canvassers based in the Houston, TX area to assist in recruiting study participants. This is a short-term project, but serves as a great opportunity for someone interested in making additional income for the holidays. It is also an opportunity to contribute to meaningful data collection that has high potential to drive policy change resulting in improved environmental conditions and community resilience. Job Duties: Make recruitment visits through canvassing pre-designated address lists. Schedule interviews for the Field Interviewers and follow up with participants as needed Attend and actively participate in Canvasser training to be held in Houston, TX. Participate in weekly meetings. Conduct outreach and other duties as needed. Required Qualifications: Strong social skills, someone who enjoys working with people. Competency working with the public in a variety of settings. Excellent communication skills. Exceptional attention to detail. Sound judgement. Reliable transportation and current vehicle insurance. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Proficient technological skills. Must be able to accurately enter data and perform other administrative tasks using a tablet. Preferred Qualifications: Experience canvassing and recruiting participants. Administrative experience. Call center, recruitment, or home visit experience preferred. Bilingual – English and Spanish Familiar with the use of mapping software. Details: The hourly pay rate for this project starts at $17 per hour plus performance bonus opportunities. This is a temporary position for 01/03/22 through 02/03/22. Canvassers must work a 20-40 hour week and meet standard performance criteria.
