Description

Press release from the Town of Plymouth: January 4, 2022 Applicants Needed Climate Action/Net Zero Decarbonization Plan Advisory Committee On November 16th, the Select Board voted to appoint an advisory committee to begin exploring equitable climate adaptation actions and greenhouse gas emission reduction strategies in sectors such as municipal, commercial and residential buildings, transportation, energy systems and land use. Ideally, the advisory committee would consist of no less than 7 and no more than 11 Plymouth residents who have the skills required to draft a Climate Action/Net Zero Decarbonization (CANZ) Plan. The Town of Plymouth is seeking individuals with expertise in areas such as: • Public Health and Human Services • Environmental Advocacy • Science/ Engineering (Climate, Energy, Water) • Education • Agriculture • Renewable energy • Housing • Development and Design • Indigenous Representation • Nature Based Solutions • Business Community The advisory committee could utilize resources available through Metropolitan Area Planning Council's (MAPC) Net Zero Playbook and Massachusetts Climate Action Network's (MCAN) Clean Energy Toolkit. Over 20 towns in Massachusetts have already drafted Climate Action Plans, which can serve as models, and the MA 2050 Decarbonization Roadmap may also be used as a guide. Greenhouse Gas Protocol offers standards and tools to quantify emissions reductions measures, as does the EPA. The advisory committee will outline the scope of the plan, come up with a strategy for engaging stakeholders and community members, and begin outreach to gather input before the Town sets formal goals. Committed volunteers are needed in order to devise the Climate Action/Net Zero Decarbonization Plan timely and efficiently. These volunteers should be willing and able to participate in the workload and attend meetings at regular intervals. If you or someone you know may be interested in applying for the CANZ Plan advisory committee, please submit a letter of interest to the Select Board through Chris Badot at [email protected].
