LAKELAND, FL — A second Walmart in Polk County has temporarily closed within a week to be sanitized in the COVID-19 surge, according to WFLA.
Lakeland Walmart has hired a third-party cleaning company to deep clean its entire store for COVID-19 safety. It closed Thursday at 2 p.m. and will reopen Saturday at 6 a.m. The first one that temporarily closed earlier in the week was in Auburndale. It reopened Wednesday.
"As you know, several areas across the country have begun seeing a renewed increase in positive COVID-19 cases, and we want to assist health officials working against the pandemic," the company told WFLA. "In support of this effort, we have chosen to temporarily close our Lakeland store location at 5800 Us Highway 98 N. at 2 p.m. as part of an ongoing company-initiated program. This will allow extra time for a third-party specialist to further sanitize the store and will also give our associates additional time to restock shelves and prepare the store to once again serve the community."
