Here are the top three stories today in Roanoke: Roanoke County will remove the student mask mandate if Governor-elect Youngkin cancels the public health order. If canceled, Roanoke County Public Schools will be mask optional and return to their pre-COVID medical policies. Some school board members wanted a vote to be postponed until the next meeting on Jan. 18. (WSLS 10) Roanoke residents have been enduring power outages caused by the Monday night winter storm. Nearly 500 city employees and contractors are working towards getting power back. The estimate is that more than 100 homes lost power. (WDBJ7) Roanoke's plastic bag tax is still causing confusion for city shoppers. Many shoppers do not know that the tax is being issued by the city, not the grocery stores.
