Jaylen Cavil, who is most well known for his role in the Des Moines Black Liberation Movement, said in a statement that he wants to "take our fight for racial and economic justice into the legislature. Last fall, Cavil was cleared on a charge of disorderly conduct, which stemmed from a 2020 protest. (KCCI Des Moines)2021 was a record year for calls to the Des Moines Fire Department. The department handled 30,838 fire calls, an increase of 8 percent from 2020. While a third of those calls were for structure and vehicle fires, false alarms, and smoke scares, a whopping 20,000 calls were for emergency medical services — mostly related to COVID-19 issues.
