Description

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — East Providence Public Schools will have distance learning days on Friday, Jan. 7, and Monday, Jan. 10 due to the winter storm Thursday into Friday, and staffing shortages and student absences amid the coronavirus pandemic. Superintendent Kathryn Crowley said there were 161 school staff absent Thursday, and more than 20 percent of students were also out sick. The storm is expected to bring six to eight inches of snow to parts of Rhode Island, according to the National Weather Service. Expect hazardous conditions and low visibility throughout the morning hours. From 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., up to one inch of snow could fall per hour. While accumulations of four to six inches were initially expected, they were later upgraded to six to eight inches. The city enacted a parking ban for before and after the storm. The bans starts at 11:30 p.m., Thursday and is enacted until further notice.
