Former Phoenixville Special Fire Policeman Leo Custer Dies At 92

PHOENIXVILLE, PA —The Phoenixville Fire Department has announced the passing of former Special Fire Police Officer Leo "Louk" Custer, who died on Dec. 29 at the age of 92. Custer became a Life Member of the department in 2012 after first joining Phoenix Hose, Hook & Ladder Co. No. 1 in 1987. In 1988, Custer became a special fire police officer, and later he was promoted to first lieutenant and eventually to captain. He served on that unit until about 2018, according to the department. Custer helped with fundraising activities for the fire department, including working weekly bingo games for several decades. He also was tasked with training and leading fire department personnel for the marching portion of the housing procession in 2018. According to an obituary on the Devlin Rosmos Kepp & Gatcha Funeral Home website, Custer was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Eleanor. He is survived by his children Nancy Lynn, Lisa Ann and Leo Todd, a granddaughter and a great-grandson. Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday.
