Description
INGLESIDE, IL — The Volo Bog Winterfest, which was originally planned for this weekend, has been rescheduled for Feb. 27.
The event was originally slated to take place on Jan. 9 but will now be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 27, according to a post on the Facebook page of the Friends of Volo Bog, which organizes the event. The increase in COVID cases prompted the date change, Stacy Iwanicki, natural resources coordinator for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, told Patch in an email response.
Those stopping out in February are reminded to wear masks while indoors.
During the event there will be live music from the Ivy Ford Band, an awards ceremony for photo contest winners, winter-themed crafts and cookies. Outdoors there will be a snow-sculpting contest (if there's snow), winter bog tours, hiking and opportunities for people to snowshoe, cross-country ski and more (though you should bring your own gear).
Docents and naturalists along with many other volunteers from around the bog will be on hand to answer questions.
The Volo Bog State Natural Area, which is home to the only open-water quaking bog in Illinois, is located at 28478 W. Brandenburg Road in Ingleside.
