ELMHURST, IL — An Amazon delivery driver's parking upset an Elmhurst resident who was coming home from work, police said. The resident was later charged with battery.
Early the evening of Dec. 15, the Amazon truck driver parked the wrong way, blocking the resident's driveway to a house in the 700 block of North Indiana Street.
The resident, Daniel Schaul, 42, was coming home from work and pulled behind the truck and started honking his horn, according to a police report obtained through a public records request. Schaul then got out of his car and reached into the 31-year-old Amazon driver's truck, striking him in the face and knocking off his hat, police said.
The driver got out of his truck and called 911. He told police he was not injured.
A UPS driver who said he was driving by told police he was a witness and saw Schaul strike the Amazon driver, police said.
According to the report, Schaul said he got into an argument with the Amazon driver and reached into the truck, knocking off the driver's hat. Schaul said the Amazon and UPS drivers threatened they would "kick their a---- if they were not working," the report said.
Schaul's neighbor gave the same version of events. The neighbor said he came out when he heard the arguing. He said the threat was issued to both residents, according to the report.
Schaul was given a citation under the city ordinance for battery, police said.
