ELMHURST, IL — An Elmhurst teen was the victim of a purse theft last week at a local restaurant. Her father said his 15-year-old daughter left her table for a moment to go to the counter at Chipotle, 139 N. York St. When she returned, her Kate Spade purse, a Christmas present, was gone, her father said. He said video was available inside and outside the restaurant. "It seems that a female had followed my daughter into the store with the sole intent of stealing her purse," the father said. "It was not random, from what I understand." He said he wanted residents to know about this, so they could speak with their children about being more diligent and aware of their surroundings when they are in public. In its media reports last week, Elmhurst police said the unattended purse was stolen about 5:30 p.m. Dec. 27. Patch filed a request for the police report and video last week. On Wednesday, the city declined to release the records, citing an "active investigation."
