WESTMONT, IL — A 15-year-old boy faces multiple felony charges after police say he shot a woman in a leg, pulled her from her car and drove off in the vehicle in Westmont. The incident took place late Jan. 4 at the Suffield Gardens apartment complex. Officers were called to the scene just before midnight and arrived to find a woman with a gunshot wound in her leg, according to a news release from DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. Police say the woman had returned home in her car when the teen opened her door while armed with a gun. The juvenile is accused of pointing the gun at the woman's face and then ordering her to get out of the car. Prosecutors say the teen then shot the woman in the leg and grabbed the hood of the woman's coat to pull her her out of the vehicle before getting in and driving off. Oak Brook police later spotted the car driving northbound on Route 83 near I-88 and attempted to pull over the vehicle. Police say the driver then fled onto I-290, hitting speeds of more than 100 mph, before crashing the car. The juvenile was taken into custody and prosecutors say officers recovered a P80 polymer gun with an extended magazine and no serial number from inside the car. "The allegations that this juvenile shot an innocent woman as she sat in her car outside of her residence, dragged her out of the car by the hood of her coat and then fled in her vehicle are outrageous," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. Berlin added, "The type of violent behavior alleged in this case has an adverse effect on the safety and security enjoyed by the entire community and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law." The DuPage County State's Attorney's Office has requested the juvenile's case be transferred to adult court. He is set to appear in court again on Jan. 10.
