At its Tuesday, Jan. 4 meeting, the Eden Prairie City Council reviewed and accepted the City's Race Equity Report which outlines recommendations to make Eden Prairie a more equitable and inclusive community. The report, which was drafted by the Human Rights and Diversity Commission (HRDC) in conjunction with a project consultant and City staff, is based on research and community feedback. It outlines recommendations in six main areas:
Emergency Response Facilities and Programs: Accessibility and Culture Recruiting, Hiring and Retention Connection to Community Community Experience Developing Future Leaders The goal of creating the report was to identify ways the City can create and strengthen community relationships, encourage shared decision-making and minimize disparities wherever possible.
Project Research and Outreach Throughout 2020 and 2021, City staff and residents were encouraged to participate in project research through individual interviews, focus groups, world cafés and online surveys. City documents and policies were also reviewed.
Next Steps Now that the City Council has accepted the report, City staff will review the recommendations and begin creating plans for implementation. Additional community engagement will be conducted as the plan is reviewed.
City staff will provide the HRDC with an initial implementation plan within six months and continue to provide summary reports to the HRDC and City Council on a regular basis.
