BIRMINGHAM, MI — The home furnishings retailer CB2, which is a Crate and Barrel Holdings brand, will be opening Michigan's first store in Birmingham, according to a news release from the city. The new furniture store will occupy the ground level of the Maplewood building on the northeast corner of Maple Road and North Old Woodward Avenue in the heart of downtown Birmingham, the news release said. "We are seeing major interest in Birmingham from the home furnishings industry," Executive Director Sean Kammer said. "Birmingham is swiftly becoming the regional hub for this industry. "CB2 coming to Birmingham is an exciting development." Construction has started for the 7,500 square foot store and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2022, Kammer said. Plans for the Maplewood building also include moving the company's headquarters to the upper floors of the building. With the development of the CB2 store, Bakehouse 46 will be relocated from its current location at 136 North Old Woodward Avenue to 250 West Maple Road, the news release said. "Retaining Bakehouse 46 was a huge priority," Kammer said. "Maintaining a balance of small businesses and national anchors is critical to ensure that downtown Birmingham remains economically resilient, diverse and attractive to all people in the region." Crate and Barrel Holdings is a member of the Otto Group with over 100 stores and franchise partners in 9 countries, and is a destination for contemporary and modern furniture, housewares and decor, according to its company website. The CB2 brand boasts 23 international locations in some of the most trendiest downtowns including Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC and Toronto.
