Entrepreneurship and the local economy as it relates to small and new business, venture capitalist in the past and in the future - what investors are looking for - owning a business locally and new and future projects in our area. The current landscape of employment, how businesses can recruit and keep employees Moderated By: Melanie Schmees joined the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce in March of 2019. Prior to starting at the Chamber, she served as a compensation analyst at HealthCare Appraisers where she helped navigate hospitals and physicians through the complex healthcare regulatory environment. Previously she worked as an economic researcher for The Lee County Economic Development Office. She is currently pursuing her MBA from Florida Gulf Coast University, where she previously obtained her B.S degree in Finance and Economics in 2018. She currently serves on the board for the Florida Heartland Economic Region of Opportunity (FHERO) and is an active member on numerous workforce and economic development committees across the SWFL region and the state. As Director of Business and Economic Research at The Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce, Melanie conducts business retention and expansion visits, heads economic research and analysis initiatives and coordinates with numerous governmental, utility, and not-for-profit organizations critical to economic growth marketing, services, and contracts. Panel: Dr. Amir B. Ferreira Neto is Director of the Regional Economic Research Institute, and Assistant Professor of Economics at Florida Gulf Coast University. His research interest lies in the intersection of regional and urban economics and creative economics, in particular focusing on urban amenities, labor markets and economic impact analysis. He is the author or co-author of 25 peer-reviewed articles, and currently serves as co-editor of the Journal of Regional Analysis & Policy. Tyler Hardt, CFA is the Chief Investment Officer and Founder of Pelican Bay Capital Management, LLC, an investment management firm based in Naples, FL. Pelican Bay Capital Management offers high net worth individual investors institutional-grade boutique stock portfolios that utilize a deep value philosophy. Prior to launching Pelican Bay Capital Management, Tyler was an Equity Analyst on the US Value Team at Artisan Partners in Atlanta, GA. As an Equity Analyst, Tyler recommended investments for the Firm’s small, mid, and large cap mutual funds with assets under management of approximately $20 billion. He developed an expertise covering the energy, utility and industrial sectors; and has been quoted in publications including Bloomberg News, Barron’s, Forbes and Fortune Magazine. Tyler is also a published author. He has written a book on investing called Value Investing: A Disciplined Framework. Tyler has also held roles in Mergers & Acquisitions and Corporate Strategy at AT&T and American Tire Distributors. Tyler received his MBA in Finance with Honors from the Wharton School in 2009. He graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Maryland in 2002. He is also a CFA charterholder and serves on the Board of Directors for the Naples CFA Society. He serves as a Mentor for the Business School’s Finance Mentorship Program and is a Judge for the Runway Program Pitch Competition held by the FGCU’s Institute for Entrepreneurship. Tyler also has a passion for angel investing and helping entrepreneurs launch new businesses. He is on the Board of Directors for Listella, serves as a Strategic Advisor to several startups, and is a member of the Tamiami Angel Fund IV. He also enjoys biking and boating with his wife, Meg, and two children. Alex Breault joined the Leadership Collier Foundation of the Greater Naples Chamber of May, 2018 as the Director of Work-Based Learning to connect educators and students to local employers. This initiative is achieved through work-based learning experiences to expose students to local career opportunities and increase their employability skills for a better prepared workforce for the future. In 2019, Alex was selected to participate in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Leads Fellowship Program to enhance her learning of various workforce strategies from other Chamber professionals across the nation. Alex is committed to building the Chamber’s partnership with the local school district and nonprofits serving students. Prior to joining the Chamber team, Alex was the Executive Assistant to the Supervisor of Elections for Collier County. Alex was awarded her Master Florida Certified Elections Professional (MCEP) designation from the Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections (FSASE), and was awarded Certified Elections Registration Administrator (CERA) designation from the Election Center. Alex is a current member of the Young Professionals of Naples, Leadership Collier Alumni Association, a 2017 Growing Associates In Naples graduate, Board Chair of the Collier County Public School NAF Advisory Board and sits on the school-based NAF committees. and a member of the Child’s Path Advisory Board. In 2016, Alex also served on the Immokalee Multicultural Multipurpose Community Action Agency (IMMCAA) Board of Directors. Alex is a true “Neapolitan” as she was born and raised in Naples, FL. She is a proud alumnus of Florida Gulf Coast University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. Alex is married to her husband, John, and they have a son named Jack, a daughter named Emmie, and chocolate Labrador named Bowen. They love boating, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
