WEYMOUTH, MA — Amid staffing shortages, Weymouth High School is closed Wednesday following the winter break. Families were alerted Tuesday that the school will be closed Wednesday due to staffing issues, but athletics will continue as normal, the Patriot Ledger first reported. This closure will be treated as a school cancellation, meaning the students will have to make up the day at the end of the year. "While we understand that closing school is challenging for families, we know we must have adequate school support to operate effectively," Superintendent Robert Wargo wrote. "We will continue to monitor our capacity to reopen schools over the next 24 hours, and will reassess every 24 hours for the remainder of the week." With rising COVID-19 case numbers following the winter break, multiple school districts made the decision to cancel or delay classes on Monday, and some even on Tuesday as well, to allow staff and students more time to properly test before returning to school. More than 1,000 Boston Public Schools teachers, staff members and bus drivers were out on Tuesday.
