The 74th Annual Meeting will take place April 7-9, 2022 in Florence. Details for the annual meeting—including paper presentations, keynote speakers, tours, and more—are available in the spring newsletter. Visit aub.ie/ahanewsletter. Thursday pre-meeting tours include a guided tour of “Village One” U.S. Nitrate Plant Village, , St. John’s Episcopal Church, and Locus Hill. A reception will take place Friday evening at Pope's Tavern and Museum. On Friday, events include a keynote presentation by Dr. Carrie Barske Crawford of the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area, numerous paper presentations from historians around the state and region, and tours of local historical sites. Friday evening’s award banquet will feature Don Noble, who will discuss "Fifty Years of Alabama Literature." Saturday’s session will include an archivists’ roundtable, paper presentations, and an address by AHA President Ben Severance. Sponsors for the annual meeting include UNA’s Department of History, Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area, Baldwin County Department of Archives and History, Alabama Department of Archives and History, and the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities at Auburn University. The AHA provides opportunities for meaningful engagement with the past through publications, meetings, historical markers, and other programs.The AHA is a volunteer-led and membership-supported organization. Our members are from every walk of life but share a common interest in Alabama history and a belief in its value for society today.At our meetings you will get to know local historians, college professors, preservationists, genealogists, and archivists, as well as accountants, engineers, homemakers, business people, and teachers--in short, a diverse group of folks who enjoy each other's company and enjoy learning about the past.We gather twice a year to hear talks on all aspects of Alabama history and to visit historic sites. Between meetings, we enjoy a semiannual newsletter and the quarterly Alabama Review, a journal that produces some of the best new scholarship on the state's history.
