Join us at St. Petersburg College's Midtown Campus to honor St. Petersburg's beloved educator, basketball coach, and archivist. As we approach the first anniversary of Minson R. Rubin's home-going St. Petersburg College celebrates his life and legacy with an educational event for you and your family. During his life, Mr. Rubin spent most of his time supporting the city he loved as a Pinellas County educator, basketball coach, and active community member. His work as an archivist protects and preserves the often overlooked histories of St. Petersburg's educational system during and after segregation. He was someone that truly made the world a better place, and St. Petersburg College is fortunate to carry his legacy by housing his archives. At Minson R. Rubin Day you can expect a city proclamation by Mayor Ken Welch to honor Mr. Rubin and his life's work. We will also be unveiling of a mural, by Zulu Painter, on the Cecil B. Keene Center, have a performance by the Gibbs High School Marching Band, free new books for community members, story time for young ones, delicious food from Midtown establishments, a tour of Mr. Rubin's historic Collection, and an art exhibition at SPC's Jamerson Center inspired by Mr. Rubin's collection.
