HARLEM, NY — A woman tried to rob a bank in the heart of Central Harlem on Monday by slipping a note to the teller, police said. The attempted robbery happened just before 3 p.m. Monday at the Chase bank at 55 West 125th St., between Malcolm X Boulevard and Fifth Avenue. The unidentified woman approached a 24-year-old bank teller and passed a note demanding cash. But bank employees did not comply with the demand, and the woman fled without any money and began walking west along 125th Street, police said. (NYPD) Police described the suspect as a woman between 30 and 40 years old, about 5 feet, 3 inches tall and 140 pounds. She was last seen wearing a grey jacket and a multicolored scarf. Authorities shared surveillance photos showing her slipping the note to the teller, and asked anyone with information to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
