SEATTLE — A Seattle police officer shot and killed a man in South Seattle on Wednesday following a struggle that left a police dog dead and another officer injured, according to law enforcement. In an update shared Wednesday afternoon, police said a resident living on the 2200 block of South Eddy Street called 911 to report a man with a knife attempting to break into their home. A K-9 team spotted a suspect and began to chase him on foot, leading them to the 6700 block of Swift Avenue South, police said. The officer deployed the K-9, and police said the burglary suspect fatally stabbed the dog and caused minor injuries to the officer. Another officer arrived to provide backup and fatally shot the man. Seattle police said its Force Investigation Team would complete an investigation into the shooting and the department said video of the shooting would be released within three days. The King County Medical Examiner's Office will formally identify the man who was killed.
