Weather Impacts Continue Jan. 6 For Prince William County Schools

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — Schools in Prince William County will be closed for students and teachers on Thursday, Jan. 6. The school system announced a Code Green for Thursday, meaning that no virtual or in-person learning will be conducted, but buildings will be open for staff and administrative personnel. Administrators and office staff should report at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Residents in Prince William County are still dealing with the effects of Monday's snowstorm. Some areas of the county received up to 12 inches of snow. Originally, students were expected to return from winter break on Monday, Jan. 3. Schools were also closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as a result of the storm. The region is expected to get more snow Thursday night and Friday morning. Winter weather is expected to move through Prince William County and other parts of Northern Virginia from 9 p.m. on Thursday to 5 a.m. on Friday. The storm may bring accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and up to 5 inches of snow in some areas, according to the National Weather Service advisory. The PowerOutage.US site that tracks all power outages showed 2,118 Prince William County utility customers without electricity as of 5 p.m. Wednesday. Dominion Power and NOVEC crews have been responding to outages across the state since Monday.
