ARLINGTON, MA — An Everett man was arrested following an investigation into drug dealing in Arlington, police said. Darrius Harris, 32, faces charges of possession of a Class B substance (cocaine) with intent to distribute (subsequent offense), resisting arrest and failure to stop. Investigators contacted Harris on Tuesday and set up a drug deal in Arlington, police said. He fled when investigators began to approach, and, after a brief pursuit on foot, was captured by an officer working a safety detail nearby, police said. Harris was taken into custody on Paul Revere Road around 12:35 p.m. Officers found cocaine on him during the arrest, police said. Harris will be arraigned Wednesday in Cambridge District Court. He may face additional charges, police said. In a statement, Arlington police said, "the scourge of drug distribution and substance use disorder continues to be one of the largest public health and public safety concerns in the nation." An Arlington resident died on Tuesday of a suspected drug overdose, according to police. "Drug use, abuse and distribution continue to be the top quality of life and public safety concerns in communities around the nation," Chief Julie Flaherty said. "I wish to commend our Arlington police investigators on a job well done in apprehending someone who allegedly profits from the suffering and misery of others."
