ARLINGTON, VA — After a three-day delay due to Monday's snowstorm and its aftermath, students in Arlington Public Schools will be heading back to their classrooms for the first time in 2022 on Thursday. In a Wednesday afternoon post on its official Twitter account, APS shared this message along with a video of a panda rolling in the snow: "After much frolicking in the snow, we're thrilled to say we are opening on time tomorrow, Thur, Jan. 6, 2022. See you soon and welcome back!" Arlington students were due to return to their classrooms from winter break on Monday, but APS decided to call a snow day because of Monday's winter storm. Since many streets across the county remained unplowed, APS kept students at home on Tuesday and Wednesday as well. The return to class may be short lived, however, as the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Thursday night. The new storm is expected to dump 2-4 inches of snow on the Washington, D.C. area, including Arlington. The threat of more snow being dumped on communities still recovering from Monday's storm prompted Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam to declare a state of emergency on Wednesday evening.
