PARAMUS, NJ — Freezing rain has created "treacherous" roadway conditions in Paramus, which delayed the opening of local elementary schools on Wednesday morning. Schools will open two hours later, Paramus schools officials announced, with morning classes at the Early Childhood Center outright. Due to treacherous road conditions, all Paramus Public elementary schools will have a two-hour delayed opening today, Wednesday, January 5. ECC morning classes are canceled.— ParamusPublicSchools (@Paramus_Schools) January 5, 2022 On Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory statewide as freezing rain fell on slippery sidewalks, roads and bridges. "Temperatures are warming across the area. There may still be lingering ice patches overuntreated surfaces," the weather service said. "Travel with caution the rest of the morning." Paramus police have requested that drivers stay off the road, or use "extreme caution" if driving is necessary. Police added that there are also local road closures as conditions remain dangerous. Speed limits on the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway have been reduced to 45 mph due to slippery conditions as crews salt the roads, according to 511nj.org. Icy conditions are the theme for Wednesday, but it's not the end of the winter weather. Here's what to know: More Snow Headed To NJ: See Latest Forecast
