75 DWI Arrests Made During Christmas, New Year's Eve In Austin

AUSTIN, TX — Austin police made 75 DWI arrests during the Christmas/New Year's Day season as a part of its DWI enforcement and No Refusal Initiatives. The initiative ran from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Dec. 17 through Jan. 1. During that time, 75 DWI arrests were made. Of those 75 arrests made, 33 were from blood search warrants, 33 were from consent breath samples and nine were from consent blood samples. Nineteen people received enhanced DWI charges when their consent breath samples were over.15, officials said. Seven people were charged with a Class A misdemeanor DWI with prior convictions. Four people received a felony DWI charge with two or more prior convictions and one person was charged with a child passenger felony during the initiative, authorities said. The Austin Police Department, the City of Austin Transportation Department and TXDOT said they are continuously focused on preventing lives from being lost on the streets, highways and waterways of Austin.
