Here are the top stories in New Orleans today: Despite increasing omicron cases, the Archdiocese of New Orleans has dropped masking in Catholic schools and faces backlash from parents. (NOLA.com) Even though the New Orleans City Council vote to decriminalize and pardon marijuana convictions was set to go into effect in September, convictions still remain on criminal records. No action has been taken to being the process of pardoning. (Louisiana Weekly) A huge wharf fire in New Orleans port required a crew of 55 firemen to get the blaze under control. (BRProud.com) Since New Years Eve, more than a dozen vehicle thefts have occurred in New Orleans. Carjackings increased by 20% in 2021 and it seems this trend is going to continue in the new year.
