PHILADELPHIA — A federally supported coronavirus testing site is expected to open Thursday in South Philadelphia, officials said Wednesday.
Health Commissioner Dr. Cheryl Bettigole said a FEMA-run testing site will have a soft opening Thursday at the Cibotti Recreation Center in Southwest Philadelphia.
The site will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Friday.
Bettigole said the site will be able to test at least 500 people daily.
The site will also be supported by state resources.
Full details on the site were not made immediately available.
In the past two weeks, 29,882 Philadelphians have been diagnosed with coronavirus, Bettigole said.
The city is averaging 3,108 new cases per day, which Bettigole said was the highest number of the pandemic so far and climbing. She also said the percentage of tests coming back positive is nearly 40 percent.
