JOLIET, IL — A court hearing is set for Jan. 12 to determine whether Joliet home invasion defendant Ivan "Sam" McGrone's 2014 Chrysler 200 will become a forfeited asset for the police. McGrone remains in the Will County Jail facing $150,000 bail in connection with felony charges of home invasion causing injury. In October, McGrone broke into a house in the 400 block of Buell Avenue and beat the man residing there, according to the complaint. "When (the victim) looked back, he recognized the intruder who he knows as 'Sam,' who was now inside the residence and behind him," court documents state. "Sam started punching him in the face." McGrone had a black revolver in his hand during the attack, the forfeiture stated. The victim "fell to the floor and Sam started kicking him while asking him where the money was," prosecutors outlined. "Sam continued to kick and punch (the victim) while he was on the ground, leaving bruises and lacerations on his face." After the victim escaped, he ran to a neighbor's house "as Sam yelled to him to go get his money. After (the victim) got inside the neighbor's house, he immediately called police," court records state. "It should be noted that while (the victim) was at the neighbor's house, Sam flipped (the victim's) couch and started destroying his property." The victim told Joliet detectives he used to live in the 400 block of Benton Street and his neighbor was McGrone's brother. The victim claimed he had borrowed $50 from McGrone and told him he would pay him back when he could, the forfeiture noted. According to the complaint, McGrone's car was seized by Joliet police at the time of his arrest and the car contained McGrone's personal items including clothes, a suitcase, numerous shoes and boots and other property "that showed Ivan McGrone was living out of his vehicle. " The forfeiture is moving forward because McGrone used his car in the commission of the Buell Avenue home invasion, according to court records.
