I had been considering getting a bird for some time and my bleeding heart got the best of me when I went into petco and saw little lemon on sale because she had been there for the majority of her 9 month life. After I bought her and her cage and all the accessories I was warned she was “mean” but didn’t think too much about it because I’m a stay at home mom and have a lot of time to devote towards taming her… or I would if she didn’t despise my almost 2 year old. My daughter is relatively quiet and very gentle for her age (we also have 2 guinea pigs that she loves on constantly) so now all my free time that I had planned to work on taming her is down to about an hour and a half while my daughter naps, which isn’t nearly enough, but she goes to the corner of the cage and hisses if my daughter is even sitting in the same room. I’m not sure if kids came and beat on the glass of her cage at the pet store or what, but she is not a fan. Im not one to rehome an animal, but in this situation I truly believe she needs a home with either no children or older kids/teenagers and maybe someone with some bird experience that can help to tame her and bring her out of her shell.
