Description
PORTLAND, OR — The data breach reported by McMenamins last month exposed much more data than previously believed. While no customer data was divulged, hackers did get their hands on the personal information belonging to staff.
It turns out that they got information going back to 1998. – 23 years worth.
The breach, which was reported on December 12, gave the hackers access to the Social Security numbers, birthdates, names, addresses, and more for every person who worked at every one of McMenamins' 56 locations.
McMenamins, which is working with the FBI, is trying to determine if the thieves also got the direct deposit information of the employees.
When the breach was reported, Brian McMenamin, who co-founded the company that now operates nearly 60 restaurants, hotels, movie theaters, and more around Oregon and Washington, says that the attach is "especially disheartening.
"It further adds to the strain and hardship that our employees have been through in the past two years. We ask that our customers give our employees extra grace."
