UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH — A 14-year-old has been accused of trying to carjack a driver at the Target on Cedar Road in December, police announced.
The teenager was taken into custody by Cleveland police on Dec. 29. Investigators believe he is connected to a series of other carjackings in other cities, University Heights police said in a statement.
Additional charges stemming from a Dec. 26 incident in University Heights will be added, police said.
What Happened In University HeightsOn Dec. 26, at 7:30 p.m., a South Euclid man was leaving Target. He was parked on the third level of the attached garage, according to University Heights police.
The man was in his running car when another vehicle pulled up next to him. A person got out of the car and walked towards the South Euclid man. The unidentified person pulled out a gun and pointed it at the running car.
The armed man told the South Euclid driver to hand over his keys and get out of the car, according to police. Instead, the driver threw his car into gear and sped away.
Officers scoured the area after the incident was reported but were unable to find the suspects or their car.
