OHIO — New COVID-19 hospitalizations and cases continued to surge in Ohio on Wednesday. In the past 24 hours, 19,750 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed among Ohioans, the state health department announced. Over the past three weeks, Ohio has averaged more than 14,500 new cases per day. New COVID-19 hospitalizations also continued Wednesday at a record-breaking pace. In the past 24 hours, at least 593 Ohioans were hospitalized due to COVID-19, the Ohio Department of Health said. Over the past three weeks, Ohio has average 327 COVID-19 hospital admissions per day. Since the calendar flipped to 2022, Ohio has been set new daily records each day for most patients hospitalized with COVID-19 at one time. As of Wednesday, the Ohio Hospital Association reports that 6,457 Ohioans are hospitalized because of the virus. That means one out of every three hospitalized Ohioan has COVID-19. COVID-19 hospitalizations have increased 37 percent over the past three weeks, the Ohio Hospital Association reported. Additionally, 53 Ohioans were moved to intensive care units on Wednesday because of COVID-19. Currently, 1,324 Ohioans are in ICUs because of COVID-19. Again, that means one out of every three ICU patients has COVID-19.
