TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa Academy has opted to not open Thursday or Friday this week, due to a "very large number of positive" COVID-19 cases in its student body. In an announcement from the school's Task Force, which met Tuesday night, school officials said the Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus began moving rapidly through the community, which prompted swift action to protect the school's students, faculty and staff. By not returning to in-person learning this week, Tuscaloosa Academy hopes the time will allow the students to recover after testing positive. However, Monday and Tuesday of next week will be virtual learning days. Tuscaloosa Academy is tentatively set to resume in-person classes on Wednesday, Jan. 12. The school is also expected to make an announcement about its lunchroom in the next day or so. Have a news tip or suggestion on how I can improve Tuscaloosa Patch?
