Female Cockatiel

Description

I've had my lovely cockatiel Mercury for roughly a year and a half now, possibly 2, but times have gotten significantly harder for me. Funds aren't coming into the house nearly as quickly and I'm not able to provide the proper space for her anymore. I love her dearly, but my work schedule doesn't allow us to interact nearly as much as I wish it did. She has an open door cage all day, and I tend to leave a TV or radio on for her while I'm gone, but the house is virtually empty (besides a snake and scorpion) most hours of the day. It breaks my heart knowing that she and I don't spend nearly enough time together and that she sits at home all alone, so I figure rehoming her to someone that does have more time would fit best. When I first adopted her, she was at the center with her brother who she arrived with, but someone adopted him a couple months prior to me adopting her and she never really seemed to get over it. She's not particularly fond of hands, though I can manage to pick her up sometimes, she just kind of tries to scare you away and acts mean. She doesn't do a very good job because it's really cute. She also doesn't seem to know how to play with things, which I find kind of strange, but I had a conure prior to having her and I'm not sure how cockatiels tend to act. I know males are more playful, but females are kind of unknown territory for me. I do know her favorite toys to chew on, what she prefers to eat, and her favorite perches to sleep on. I'm more than happy to get her checked out at a local vet to see how she is physically, but she seems in good health and good spirits. She eats well, sleeps well and has a lot of exercise throughout the day (I don't have her clipped, but I can make that happen if you'd like. I don't really believe in clipping wings though) I would prefer to keep the cage since it was pretty expensive, but I can wash and sanitize all the perches she uses, food bowls, water bowl, toys, and give you the remainder of her pellet/seed mixture. I'm kind of desperate, but I do want to be sure she goes to a good home, preferably one without small children as she is kind of pecky and I'm unsure what her response would be to cats or dogs. It would also be best if she had other birds to interact with since she's all alone here and I think it's making her sad.
