More Marblehead Mailbox Thefts Suspected: Police

MARBLEHEAD, MA —Marblehead mailboxes were once again the apparent target of another round of thefts in recent days. For the third time in the last month, Marblehead police said they and the United States Postal Service police are investigating thefts from mailboxes within the town. Police said the latest thefts are suspected in mailboxes that were tampered with sometime between Thursday at 10 a.m. and New Year's Eve at 10 a.m. The mailboxes targeted are at 4 Franklin Street (near the fire station), 5 Humphrey Street (near Marblehead Bank), 154 Humphrey Street (near Clifton Lutheran Church) and 241 Humphrey Street (near the Swampscott line). Previous thefts have included stolen checks from envelopes intended to pay municipal and utility bills. "Please, if you mailed anything from those boxes that included checks to individuals or institutions, monitor your bank accounts very closely," police said. Anyone who saw anything unusual or suspicious around the mailboxes is asked to contact Marblehead police at 781-631-1212.
