Here are the top three stories today in Norfolk: Students at Tidewater Community College have been asked not to return to campus after winter break due to the increase in COVID-19 cases and the spread of the Omicron variant. The college has instead implemented a remote work and learning environment from Jan. 3 through at least Jan 18. Spring semester enrollment is ongoing and virtual resources will continue to be available. (Press Release Desk)Norfolk residents who use the app Waze can now track traffic, crashes, and flooded roads in the city. While flooded roads are all too common across Hampton Roads, Kyle Spencer, the deputy resilience officer in Norfolk, hopes this will mitigate flood risks as the city develops other plans to prevent flooding. Those who use Waze in Norfolk and Virginia Beach will receive alerts of flooding along their route and can even update the app with flooded roads they see. The fire occurred on 8216 Chesapeake Boulevard at around 10:50 p.m. None of the residents were hurt and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
