BEL AIR, MD — A mother and daughter are recovering from their injuries after a fire destroyed their mobile home Tuesday morning in Bel Air. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office, the fire occurred just before 7 a.m. along the 800-block of Cedar Lane. Firefighters said the mother and daughter discovered the fire on the front porch near a cat carrier. The pair were able to escape out the front door. The fire quickly spread to the remainder of the home, firefighters said. Two cats were able to escape, and one is presumed to have perished. Firefighters said the home is a total loss, with the damages estimated to be around $75,000. The cause of the fire is a result heat tape igniting combustibles within a cat carrier, firefighters said. The mother and daughter suffered minor burns to their feet; however, firefighters said they refused transport to a nearby hospital for further examination.
