AUSTIN, TX — A 546-acre film studio and entertainment district is set to open near Austin in August 2023, according to a report from the Austin Business Journal. Bastrop 552 project will have 486,000 square feet of studio space, 300,000 square feet of warehouse/mill space and 200,000 square feet of office space, ABJ reports. The site will be located at 1240 Lovers Lane in Bastrop near the Colorado River. The $40.3 million first phase of Bastrop 552 includes six studios totaling 108,000 square feet, a three-story office building totaling 46,000 square feet and a 108,000-square-foot mill house and warehouse and supporting infrastructure Once completed, the development is expected to create thousands of jobs and generate millions of dollars for the Bastrop area. Bastrop Colorado Bend LLC, the company associated with the Bastrop 552 project, received approval from the Bastrop City Council in December to designate the site as a media production development zone, ABJ reports. Alton Butler – who runs Line 204 Studios – and Bastrop 552 received unanimous approval in June from the city council for a development agreement and concept plan for the project. The approval came after updating plans to address concerns from some neighbors and council members about noise, light pollution and traffic.
