Description

As per the United Nations, Yemen is the world's worst humanitarian crisis, including over 11 million innocent people in desperate need of rapid medical attention. Furthermore, almost 75% of the population (22 million people) requires immediate humanitarian aid. The humanitarian crisis worsens, with fuel shortages, soaring food costs, and a severe lack of essential amenities making daily existence a terrible battle for millions. In Yemen, innocent people are also suffering as a result of conflict and bloodshed. They are tormented by displacement and the outbreak of terrible illnesses such as cholera, which has already afflicted over one million people and is expanding due to a shortage of clean water and food.  The current situation has taken its toll on the entire population of Yemen, the worst crisis of extremely cold weather without proper clothing and shelter is a serious issue getting worse day-by-day. Yemenis are ready for a winter that threatens to drive them over the edge after a catastrophic SIX YEARS of violent strife, during which families were wiped out by starvation, disease, and war.  Yemeni children face mortality, starvation, and sickness on a daily basis. UHR is collaborating with partners on the ground in the country's worst-affected areas to provide people with potable water, food packages, shelter, and hygiene to assist decrease illness risks. People will find it increasingly difficult to live in freezing conditions as winter approaches. Winter Emergency Fund provides critical winter assistance to individuals in greatest need. The cold may be fatal for migrants and low-income families.  Wind, rain, and freezing temperatures infiltrate their ruined dwellings, which provide little to no shelter from the elements. Young malnourished children are more prone to colds, flu, and other cold-weather illnesses, which can be lethal. Our objective is to keep people warm as we continue to battle COVID-19 spread.  We can do so much when we work together! A gift of good food, enough warmth, or a warm blanket might save lives throughout winter. Warm them up and save their lives. United Hands Relief This winter, United Hands Support partners on the ground offered humanitarian relief and safety to hundreds of displaced individuals in the cities of Eden and Hadramout. Millions of vulnerable Yemenis, especially orphaned children, are battling to remain warm. With your help, we were able to provide winter relief aid to 300 families that had no one else to turn to. Food, clean water, winter kits, heaters, and blankets were distributed to vulnerable households. Yemen is experiencing the world's greatest humanitarian disaster. We are requesting that our contributors continue to fund UHR's Yemen Relief Fund in order for us to reach out to more families in need. $25 Warm Blanket – will provide a blanket to help survive the bitter months.$40 Health Kit – will provide a child with formula, milk, diapers and supplements.$150 Food Parcel – will provide a displaced family with a large customized food parcel that contains nutritious food items enough for one month.$150 Heater & Propane Tank Background of Yemen Winter Relief Temperatures can decrease drastically during the winter season, with frost occurring often in certain areas. Because of its high elevation, Yemen is colder than the rest of the Arab world.  Winters in the highlands are chilly and relatively dry, with temperatures infrequently falling below 0 °C (32.0 °F). It should be acknowledged that the extended crisis has prevented the majority of conflict-affected individuals from regaining their livelihoods, and many households have depleted their cash reserves and are unable to effectively prepare for the impending winter.  Furthermore, the country's catastrophic economic downturn, including fast devaluation of the Yemeni Rail and concomitant price increases, particularly fuel hikes, has rendered household commodities and shelter materials increasingly costly in local marketplaces for Yemenis. Because of these realities, the winterization programmed is a life-saving activity for vulnerable families who are exposed to cold temperatures. This plan is based on previous winterization response experience, engagement with partners, and a thorough examination of geographical areas susceptible to low temperatures throughout the winter months (October to February).  This plan suggests a mix of in-kind and voucher/cash deployment, with further information provided below. For isolated places where currency systems and markets do not work, in-kind distributions are advised. The initiatives outlined in this approach should be used in conjunction with any existing or planned Shelter/NFI responses.
