Description

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — On Jan. 1, John Ryan was sworn in as the new mayor of Lawrence Township during the council's reorganization meeting. A resident of the Township for 37 years, Ryan previously served on council. Ryan retired from UPS four years ago, after 28 years of service as a tractor-trailer driver. "I was a proud member of Teamsters Local 177 and a Shop Steward for many years," Ryan said in a message to the community. "I was selected to fill a vacancy on Council in 2019, then elected by the residents in 2020 to a four-year term, all while serving on numerous boards and committees." Councilwoman Cathleen Lewis nominated Ryan to the post of mayor during the reorganization meeting, and the motion to elect him was unanimous. He will serve as mayor for the next two years. In his first remarks as mayor, after being sworn in, Ryan thanked his colleagues and township employees and said he has quite a few goals to achieve in the next two years. "As Mayor you will find someone who always comes prepared and willing to go the extra mile for the residents of Lawrence," Ryan said in his message to the community. "I am also someone who is accessible and straightforward. I look forward to serving you the next two years." Thank you for reading. Have a correction or news tip?
