St. Charles Aldermen Reject Proof Of Vaccination Requirements

ST. CHARLES, IL — Officials in St. Charles voiced their opposition Monday to a measure requiring residents to show proof they've been fully vaccinated in order to enter businesses in town. There was no formal vote on the measure at the city council's government operations committee meeting on Monday, but all alderman in attendance unanimously rejected it. The discussion Monday came the same day Chicago and suburban Cook County began requiring proof of vaccination for those entering bars, restaurants, movie theaters, sports arenas and more. Prior to the meeting, St. Charles City Administrator Heather McGuire received more than 200 messages regarding the vaccination requirement in St. Charles and only two were in favor of the measure, according to the Kane County Chronicle. A rally was held outside the St. Charles municipal building prior to the Monday meeting. "This item was brought forward to the mayor after she was approached by a few elected officials who believed it was important to publicly discuss the position on the matter and make it clear where the city of St. Charles stood on this issue," McGuire said.
