HOOKSETT, NH — A man from Hooksett was arrested on driving under the influence charges last week accused of drunken driving twice within a 26 hour period. Around 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 22, a police sergeant stopped a Toyota Tacoma on Benton Road in Hooksett after reporting that the pickup truck crossed over solid yellow lines. The driver, Thomas Valiton, 60, of Hooksett was accused of showing signs of impairment and after a field sobriety test, was arrested on a driving under the influence charge. During processing, Valiton was accused of refusing a breath test. He was released on personal recognizance bail and was due to be in Hooksett District Court on Jan. 5. Around 11 p.m. on Dec. 23, a dispatcher reported a man in the lobby of the police station who appeared to be intoxicated, according to Sgt. David Scarpino. "The male then left the lobby, got into a Toyota Tacoma in the parking lot, and drove away," he said. An officer saw the pickup truck traveling north and Hooksett Road and began following it. He accused the driver of having "lane control issues" and "crossing over the solid lines." The officer attempted to stop the vehicle on Hooksett Road but accused the driver, later identified as Valiton, of continuing to drive on Hunt Street. The truck, however, stopped on Ironwood Circle. Valiton was accused of displaying signs of impairment and the officer said in a report there was an open container of alcohol in the truck. He was accused of refusing to adhere to testing and he was arrested on driving under the influence, disobeying an officer, and breach of bail charges. During processing, he also refused additional testing, Scarpino said. Valiton was held on preventive detention and taken to the county jail.
